Travels with S/Y Thetis 1998 Lesvos to Istanbul, Central Aegean, North Aegean
This is a very personal log of a period of over 4 months covering several
sailing trips with my boat,
Thetis,
in the Aegean, and a trip with my brother’s boat the
Faneromeni.
The first trip was with my brother’s boat the
Faneromeni. It originated
from Mitilini in the Greek island of Lesvos and ended in Istanbul, Turkey.
The second trip was with my own boat Thetis. It originated from Glyfada,
a suburb of Athens, Greece where she spends the long winter months, and proceeded
to the Aegean islands of Kea, Kithnos,
Syros, Rhinia, Donousa,
Patmos, Agathonisi (Gaidaros),
and Samos.
There follows a period of staying ashore in our family house in Samos from where
several trips were made. First, there was a short trip from Samos to the islands of
Arki, and Agathonisi and back to Samos.
This was followed by another short trip to Fourni, Patmos,
Agathonisi, and Samos.
From Samos I then took a longer, singlehanded, trip to Arki, Levitha,
Astypalea, Lispi, Agathonisi,
and back to Samos.
A sixth short trip followed to Arki, Patmos,
Lipsi, Agathonisi,
and back to Samos.
From Samos I started a leisurely return trip to Glyfada
covering the Northern Aegean islands of Chios, Lesvos,
Lemnos, Pelagos (Kyra Panayia),
Alonissos, Peristera,
Skantzoura,
Skyros, and the Cycladic islands of Andros,
and Kea.
Finally, since my return was too early for my flight out of Greece I made a final short trip to island of Poros
in the Saronic Gulf near Athens.
